Nellye Bonine James has been teaching piano since 1959, and has been based in Amarillo since 1975. She
started piano lessons at age 8, studied piano at Hardin Simmons University, and majored in Music Theory with a Piano minor
at Ohio State University. A published composer, Mrs. James assisted and advised throughout the development and publishing
of the Henry Slaughter Gospel Piano Course, as well as contributing the lessons on chords, and the section on transposition.
With an acoustic piano, a Roland Digital Keyboard, and a Roland disk player, "Ms. Nellye" uses the latest piano methods
featuring MIDI teaching aids, along with computer based theory. She also teaches improvisation using the Henry Slaughter
Gospel Piano Course, and the David Higginson Professional Chord System.

Teaching Piano is a great job!
I love teaching piano, and am proud of all of my students. My mother made
me take piano lessons so I could play piano for church. After a few years of lessons, I knew that playing and teaching would
be my life's work.
